Secretary-General, NATUG
Welcome from Our President
On behalf of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana, I welcome you to our digital home. For too long, tenants across our beloved nation have faced challenges without a unified voice to champion their rights and interests. NATUG was born from the collective determination of millions of Ghanaian households who believe that everyone deserves access to safe, affordable, and dignified housing.
Our union represents more than just an organization4it embodies a movement toward fairness, transparency, and justice in Ghana’s housing sector. Whether you are a tenant navigating complex rental agreements, facing disputes with landlords, or simply seeking to understand your legal rights, NATUG stands ready to support you every step of the way.
Together, we are building a future where every Ghanaian can call a safe and affordable place “home” without fear of exploitation or unfair treatment. I invite you to join us in this vital mission. Your voice matters, your rights matter, and your membership strengthens our collective power to create lasting change.
Who We Are
The National Tenants’ Union of Ghana (NATUG) stands as the authoritative and unified voice for tenants across all sixteen regions of our nation. Established with the singular purpose of championing tenants’ rights, promoting fair and transparent housing practices, and empowering our members with essential resources and support, NATUG represents millions of households from Accra to Tamale, from Kumasi to Takoradi, and everywhere in between.
Our union was founded on the recognition that Ghana’s rapid urbanization and growing housing demand have created unprecedented challenges for tenants. Rising rental costs, unclear tenancy agreements, discriminatory practices, and lack of legal recourse have left many Ghanaian families vulnerable and voiceless. NATUG emerged to fill this critical gap, providing not just advocacy but practical support, legal guidance, and a platform for collective action.
We work tirelessly to ensure that every tenant4regardless of income level, regional location, or social status4has access to the information, resources, and representation they need to secure and maintain quality housing. Through partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, legal experts, and housing advocates, we are transforming Ghana’s rental landscape one tenant, one community, and one policy reform at a time.

Our Mandate & Legal Foundation
NATUG operates under the authority of Act XX and Ghana’s comprehensive Housing Regulations, establishing our legal right and responsibility to represent tenants nationwide. Our mandate is both clear and comprehensive, encompassing five critical areas of tenant protection and housing sector reform.
First and foremost, we exist to protect the legal rights and interests of tenants across every region of Ghana. This means ensuring that tenancy agreements are fair, transparent, and legally sound; that rental charges are reasonable and clearly explained; and that tenants have recourse when their rights are violated.
Second, we actively advocate for transparent and fair rental practices throughout the housing market. We work with landlords, property managers, and housing associations to promote ethical standards and accountability in the rental sector.
Third, we provide direct support to members in resolving disputes and accessing justice. Whether through mediation, legal guidance, or representation, we stand beside our members when conflicts arise.
Fourth, we drive public policy and rental sector reform by engaging with government ministries, parliamentary committees, and regulatory bodies to shape laws and policies that protect tenants and promote affordable housing.
Finally, we work to educate and empower tenants with knowledge about their rights, responsibilities, and options, ensuring every Ghanaian can navigate the rental market with confidence.
